Courses : Alpha

What is Alpha?

The Alpha course at St John's runs over a series of ten weeks. Each year we run two evening courses on Thursday evenings - one in the spring and one in the autumn. We sometimes also run a lunchtime course, with a crèche provided, if there is sufficient demand. See below for details of our forthcoming courses.

Guests come on the Alpha course for many different reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and some have questions they’d like to discuss. Many guests have never been to church and others may have attended church but feel they have never had a personal understanding of the Christian faith.

Alpha Meal

Thursday evening Alpha - beginning with a meal

Each lunchtime or evening Alpha begins with a meal. After the meal we usually watch a DVD on a particular topic relating to the Christian faith. Occasionally we have a "live" speaker in place of the DVD. The titles of the topics we explore are shown in the calendar below.

After this we break into small groups for a relaxed and informal discussion time. It is perfectly OK to say what you think, or to ask whatever you like.

How do I get involved?

The next Alpha course will run in the autumn of 2017. Start date: Thursday, 5th October. If you'd like to register your interest in taking part, or if you'd like to talk to someone to find out more, then please do contact the Church Office, either by phone or by email. The details are at the bottom of each page on the website.
