The Christian Faith : The Alpha Course

What is Alpha?

The Alpha course provides an opportunity to explore the Christian faith. At St John's we run two evening courses each year, each taking place on Thursday evenings for a period of ten weeks. We sometimes also run a lunchtime course, with a crèche provided, if there is sufficient demand.

Guests come on the Alpha course for many different reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and some have questions they’d like to discuss. Many guests have never been to church, and others may have attended church but feel they have never had a personal understanding of the Christian faith.

Each lunchtime or evening Alpha begins with a meal. After the meal we usually watch a DVD on a particular topic relating to the Christian faith. Occasionally we have a "live" speaker in place of the DVD.

After this we break into small groups for a relaxed and informal discussion time. It is perfectly OK to say what you think, or to ask whatever you like.

How do I get involved?

The next Alpha course will run in 2018 - the exact start date will be announced soon. The titles of the topics we explore are shown in the calendar below. If you'd like to register your interest in taking part, or if you'd like to talk to someone to find out more, then please do contact the Church Office, either by phone or by email. The details are at the bottom of each page on the website.
